Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson Book Cover  Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson
After years of pinching pennies and struggling to get through art school, Emma Makie’s hard work finally pays off with the offer of a dream job. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to make a cross-country move to Colorado Springs to take temporary custody of her two nieces. She has no money, no job prospects, and no idea how to be a mother to two little girls, but she isn’t about to let that stop her. Nor is she about to accept the help of Kevin Grantham, her handsome new neighbor, who seems to think she’s incapable of doing anything on her own.
Fun, compelling, and romantic, Prejudice Meets Pride is the story of a guy who thinks he has it all figured out and a girl who isn't afraid to show him that he doesn't. It’s about learning what it means to trust, figuring out how to give and to take, and realizing that not everyone gets to pick the person they fall in love with. Sometimes, love picks them.

My Review: Emma Makie is the aunt of two adorable girls, Kajsa and Adelynn. She hadn't planned on becoming both their mother and father, but that's what happened when their father had to get a new job and couldn't take care of them for a little while. Hopefully she can figure this mom stuff out and get a new job and quick! She just moved into her great aunt's old house in Colorado Springs and she didn't get off to the best start with her new neighbor, Kevin Grantham. For Kevin's part, he's not overly thrilled when he sees her 30 year-old Datsun parked in front of the house, he assumes that whoever owns that care will not care for either their house or their yard. His opinion of her goes from bad to worse when he is behind her in the grocery line and she had forgotten the money to pay for the groceries. He does what any kind man would do and offers to buy them for her which Emma very ungraciously declines. Will Kevin be able to see Emma for the amazing woman that she is? Will Emma ever be able to allow someone else to help her even a little bit?

Oh. My. Heck! I loved every minute of reading this book! I love the characters, Rachael Anderson is a master at writing believable characters. I loved the setting, and the plot. I really liked how both Emma and Kevin were guilty of having pride towards the other one, while at the same time maintaining little prejudices as well. Sometimes I wanted to smack Emma and say, let Kevin help you with things that are hard to do yourself. I also wanted to smack Kevin sometimes too though! I really loved the ending of this book, but I was so sad to see it end. And then I realized that there are going to be two more stories about characters from this book, that made my day, I can't wait to be able to read the next two!

I was sent an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
